It’s now about 34 hours since I deleted the freenet 0.5 routing tables and started fresh with one single node ref to start with. My open connections are at the level that I’m used to seeing them:

Connections open (Inbound/Outbound/Limit) 108 (68/40/2000)

The routing table now knows about 272 active nodes and the list is continuing to grow:

# Histogram of node versions in fred’s Routing table
# Nov 13, 2007 10:41:20 PM
# nodes: 272
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5099 1
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5100 3
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5102 2
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5103 1
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5105 9
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5106 38
Fred,0.5,STABLE-1.51,5107 215
Fred,0.6,1.51,60275 1
Fred,0.6,1.51,60276 1
Fred,0.6,1.51,60277 1

It did occur to me that when I deleted the routing table data I didn’t delete the “node” file that contains my node’s identity information. This means that it’s entirely possible that part of why my node is picking up new reference information so quickly is that other nodes already recognize it’s identity. This means that sometime soon I’m probably going to repeat this experiment with deleting the “node” file along with the routing table files.

Also, since at least part the idea is to see how fast a new node can integrate into the network, I wonder if I should delete my data store as well. I’m *really* hesitant to do that because it’s a 25 Gigabyte store. Perhaps I could essentially create a new node and when I’m done with this experiment re-integrate the existing data store back into the new node.
