Here’s something interesting, something on slashdot VM
Enables ‘Write-Once, Run Anywhere’ Linux Apps, we’re liable to see Linux native apps that can be run on any machine that has this virtual machine installed. In a way it reminds me a lot of Java Virtual Machines, but in spite of that I’m willing to give the idea a chance.

To be honest though, I’m not really thrilled about the virtual machine bit. Java manages to pull it off most of the time, but Java apps in my experience tend to require a LOT of memory and cpu to achieve the same speed and overall performance that they’d get if written native for the OS it’s being run on.

Every time some genius comes up with something like this, all of a sudden the amound of memory, hdd space and cpu cycles needed to make it work decently goes up through the roof.
