Revert WordPress 2.5.x Admin Panels to 2.3.3

Any blogger that’s made the move from WordPress 2.3.3 to the new 2.5.x can tell you that the Admin panels have been drastically changed. I’ve seen a lot of talk about it and there’s people landing on two sides of the thing.

One set of people clearly prefer the new design and the changes that have been made to the layout and functions of the Admin panels. They couldn’t be happier with the current state of things.

The other group absolutely hates the changes. Things have been moved around, some functionality has been changed, and it’s made blogging more of a chore as a result. This group wants the Admin panels changed back to what they were in 2.3.3

Personally, having “upgraded” several blogs to 2.5.x, I hate what’s been done to the admin panels and I want my 2.3.3 admin panel layouts and functions back the way they were.

Recently I ran across mention of an “admin hack” designed to do just that. I changes the “write post” screen back to something that at least resembles 2.3.3 enough to be functional and easier to use. All you need to do is download wp-2-5-show-draft-title.zip and upload it to your WP directory, overwriting the existing files. I’m using it now and while it’s not perfect, it beats the living snot out of what the WordPress devs did to 2.5.x.

But Wait! There’s More!

Somebody has posted an “Idea” on WordPress.org: Idea: Revert the 2.5 Write screen to 2.3. If this Idea gets enough votes there is at least a chance that it will be made part of WordPress 2.6.x It’s VERY much worth taking a few minutes of your time to create an account on WordPress.org and vote for this idea.
