Notepad++ bills itself as a “Source code editor and Notepad replacement” but it turns out to be so much more than that.

The reason for this is that it’s got so many features that it really blows the original notepad away totally. Some of the features include Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding for a wide variety of Supported languages which include:

C, C++, Java, C#, XML, HTML, PHP, CSS, makefile, ASCII art (.nfo), doxygen, ini file, batch file, Javascript, ASP, VB/VBS, SQL, Objective-C, and several more

If you’ve got GNU Aspell Notepad++ can use it for spell check functions
Macro recording and playback
Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting
Regular Expression Search/Replace supported
Multi-Document - Multi-View
print in color.
User defined languages, including syntax folding keywords, comment keywords and operators.

It’s a full featured editor that’s definitely worth checking out to more than replace Notepad
