Something that’s been bugging me something fierce since my wife got a Vista machine is the fact that it, like most other versions of Windoze defaults to hiding file extensions for known file types. My recent post about viewing hidden files and folders included fixing that in the XP directions. However until today how to do it in Vista has remained a mystery. I am now thankful to have found out how.
1. Open any folder (the “Computer” folder on the desktop is a handy one for this)
2. Click the button left of the “Views” button.

3. Click Folder Options
4. Click on the View tab
5. Deselect Hide extensions for known file types
6. Click OK and you’re done.
