I read that there’s this huge group of spammers, a spamming botnet made up of an estimated 35,000 compromised computers and able to send upwards of ten Billion emails a day, being shut down. You’d think that with something that large being shut down that I and many others would see a sharp reduction in the daily dose of spam in our email. However my spam level doesn’t look like the source has been on anything like the top rated diet pills for spam. It’s still flowing just as strong as ever.

The FTC has been watching them for a while apparently, which I suppose is how they have enough information to monitor the spam group’s money. They’ve been clearing something like $400K a month in Visa charges selling male enhancement herbs and other garbage.

If a botnet that big is taken down and the amount of the general spam flow hasn’t abated at all, just how many botnet machines are involved with spam?

spam, botnet, spam group, botnet shut down, ten billion emails, unsoliceted email

Go on wikipedia, or some other site, and read about:

    Kraken botnet

    Storm Botnet

    Srizbi botnet

and references to more. 35.000 computers are nothing compared to the sizes that those were/are.
