I saw an interesting bit on Slashdot recently, it seems that the Air Force, wants to rewrite the rules of how the Internet works.

The first thing I have to say is that I fully get the need for security and the fact that their IT and security people are tired of an almost endless string of attacks on it’s computer networks. Especially since these adversaries have been able to remain anonymous and nobody knows whether they’re out to do real harm or this is just something they work on while they hang around the gym waiting for their turn on the ellipticals.

The problem with this kind of “change the Internet” thinking is that people have tried this kind of thing before and guess what, nothing’s changed all that much. As one person noted in a sarcastic comment that’s reminiscent of Dr. Phil. “I’m sure that’ll work out really well for them.”

How about we revisit the issue in a year or so and pull a real Dr. Phil on them and ask “How’s that working for you?”
