For Want of A Spatula

November 8th, 2012 22:05 pm | by Ed |

I know that this area is actually kinda small but then that's one of the things I like about it. Small towns are in many ways so much easier to live in. There are times however when that isn't always true.

Such can often be the case when buying big ticket items or even a lot of "medium ticket" things like some brands and types of home electronics. This is especially true of specialty hobby type items. Small town stores, regardless of how big they are don't often carry much stuff like that because they don't sell enough of them to justify keeping it in stock.

Such is the case with Joey's favorite brand of spatula. He's an amateur chef and like many others, has developed certain preferences when it comes to kitchen appliances, utensils and other kitchen equipment. Everything has to be just so or he's not at all comfortable using it because he's not familiar with it.

I know that some will say that appliances, general kitchen equipment and utensils are pretty much all alike from one brand to another but a pro or a dedicated amateur like Joey will easily be able to convince you otherwise that not all kitchen gear is created equal.

Anyway, back to his spatula. I'm still not clear as to how but his managed to get broken in several places and needed to be replaced. The problem is that it's not exactly a common "off the shelf" brand and no store for 500 miles carries it. He spent three days on the phone calling every store that might carry it to find out. Because of this he ended up having to change his tactic and spend time searching the internet to find kitchen equipment online where he finally did find his particular brand of spatula. In fact he found one that is exactly the same make and model as the one that was destroyed.

Perhaps next time he'll try searching online first instead of checking 57 stores that he should know full well are not going to carry it.
