News That Almost Wasn't

July 6th, 2013 21:04 pm | by Ed |

In recent weeks it seems that the daily newspaper was having serious trouble. Now I'm not one to spend much time looking at newspapers very often but I've heard plenty of talk about it from folks at the Nutjob Hills Diner.

It seems that the problem started nearly a month ago when several of the more experienced people who maintained the printing presses quit without notice because of some internal conflict with management. Everybody I've heard talking about it assumes it's over money but the truth is you never really know for sure.

Regardless of why, the result is that it didn't take long for things to start breaking down when the people most experienced and knowledgeable about the presses were no longer there to keep things running smoothly.

After three weeks of this things were getting serious. The print quality of the newspaper had dropped considerably and it was starting to look more like a two bit rag than a respectable paper. Finally word spread that management had called these guys in and made them an offer, one that included not only more money but giving in on issues that sparked their departure in the first place.

The moral of this story is don't shoot yourself in the foot and you won't have to deal with the pain and expense of fixing it.
