Removing Junk files and Defragging a Desktop Mess

February 24th, 2009 02:53 am | by Ed |

Is your desktop a mess? Mine certainly is. I've literally got several hundred documents on it. Worse yet, they're in absolutely no order at all. I've had more times than I care to admit where I had to spend an hour or more locating a specific document.

No, I'm not talking about my Windows desktop (though it does tend to collect dozens of files.). I'm talking about the sad state of computer desks in my house. You see there's two of them, and both have more papers, bills, CD's, books and literally God only knows what else might be lurking there.

The problem is that it's not so easy to identify "junk" and get rid of it as you might expect it to be. I've had too many times when what I considered junk one day was extremely important a few days or weeks later.

In spite of all this, sometime soon I'm going to have to first cleanup both desktops, and then "defrag" everything that has to stay. As you might imagine, it's not a task I'm looking forward to. Especially since once the desktops are clear, I've got six drawers one and four storage areas in the other that need the same treatment.

Sometimes, when I look at all that needs to be done, I can't help thinking that there are times when neatness isn't all it's cracked up to be.
