That Doggone Wishlist again...

March 21st, 2009 20:42 pm | by Ed |

Perhaps I'm getting a little busy with the wish list thing these days but I figure what the heck, If I make a point of mentioning things that I wish I had and put them on some kind of which list, then maybe I might be surprised someday and end up with one or more of 'em being made reality.

Anyway, I was talking before about video editing software with an eye toward doing special visual effects. See, I've found that I really enjoy making videos and I especially like finding ways to work whatever FX I know how to do into them. Only problem is that There's a boatload of effects that I haven't yet figured out how to do.

For example Remember Quantum Leap? When Al would appear through a "doorway" that opened in Sam's reality? Well, I've tried a few dozen times to duplicate that effect and have not managed it yet. I'm sure it's got to do with some kind of green screen effect combined with a mask but I haven't manage to get it to work yet. I'll keep working on it but it'd sure be nice to have some kind of reference that could at least give me a clue or perhaps even cover that particular effect.

Well, Looking around the various Sale pages on I found something that, even if it doesn't specifically cover that effect, it ought to cover enough things that perhaps I can pull together the effect I'm looking for. In today's world of "ebooks" this is truly a find. It's an honest to God paperback book "Special Effects: How to Create a Hollyhwood Film Look on a Home Studio Budget"

From what I've read about the book, it looks to me like a great addition to the library of anyone wanting to make the best of their videos.
