Old Dell P4, New Motherboard?

March 16th, 2010 21:31 pm | by Ed |

I've got an older Dell Optiplex gx240 with a Pentium 4 CPU. It's been a decent machine for the years that I've had it (it was my wife's). However some recent problems that have developed, trouble starting up, network adapter not working at all and a few other things, have me looking for a replacement motherboard for it.

The thing is, what I would REALLY like to do is replace both the motherboard and CPU with something a whole lot more modern (not to mention faster!) so that I could use it to render my video projects while my main machine stayed available for other tasks (like doing the editing work on the next video!!)

The problem is that as far as I can tell, the Dell tower isn't going to like having anything but a Dell replacement board put into it. So now the question becomes, what Dell boards could I put in there that would give me the upgrade I'm looking for?

I guess it's time to start haunting tech forums and the Dell website.
