What’s Better? Upgrade Or Replace?

A little while ago I wrote about a Dell desktop that I’m having problems with. Since then, I’ve been looking around at some motherboards to see if I could find anything that looked like it would be a good fit AND have the upgrades that I’d like to do at the same time when I ran across a great looking refurbished laptop. This got me to thinking that if I cannot find what I want in a motherboard, it might be worthwhile to give consideration to just replacing the desktop with the laptop.

Asus X83VB-X2 laptopThis is an especially tempting idea when you stop to realize that the laptop is actually a LOT more computer than the older desktop is. It’s faster, has more memory, larger hard drive.. everything is much more capable. The ONLY thing about it that I would have to change is to get a full set of Windows XP drivers for it and trade out Vista for XP because there’s no way I want to have to fight Vista again. Once with that disease is bad enough!

It looks like a pretty good deal. Especially when you combine all it’s features with the fact that it’s currently on sale for a little over one hundred dollars off the list price! This sucker is definitely going to the top of my wish list! Hey, I *DO* have a birthday coming up in a few months. Who knows? Maybe some wealthy relative will decide that I need about six of them! (like I always say, if you’re going to dream, dream BIG!)
