I just ran across an article on ZD-Net that’s got me positively drooling. Especially after the migraine treatments that I have spent a lot of time and money on because of the problems that I’ve had in working with an older, slower system when editing and processing video. (and forget doing much of anything with particle generators!!)
Adrian Kingsley-Hughes writes that you can put two of Intel’s new six-core “hexacore” i7 980x processors into an EVGA Classified Super Record 2 (SR-2) Motherboard to end up with a TWELVE CORE system that ought to blow the doors off of anything around for some time to come.
The stats on that thing are fantastic! In addition to the dual six core processors it’s got:
sockets for 12 DIMM Triple-Channel DDR3 1333MHz+ (up to 48GB RAM!!!)
2 SATA III 6.0GB/s Ports
6 SATA II 3.0GB/s Ports
2 E-SATA Ports
8 Channel High Definition Sound
2 USB 3.0/2.0 Ports
10 USB 2.0 Ports
Not one but TWO Gigabit Ethernet Ports!!
With a system like that, I wouldn’t be surprised if it would be possible to render a two hour video while editing another one!
