Adult Acne Really Exists

June 9th, 2010 06:35 am | by Ed |

When you mention acne to most people, they immediately think of the local teenage kid with the zit problem so bad that you just *know* he's not going to have a date until he's 25. While it's true that most cases of acne occur in teens there's two things to consider. 1) The classic "Pizza face" stereotype is a LOT less common than you might thing and 2) Acne is a very real problem to more and more adults these days.

Adults from twenty to fifty (or older) can have acne flare-ups just as much as the younger set. The psychological trauma caused by this problem can be just as bad as teenage acne and often worse when you consider the stress of family life and work adding to and sometimes calling attention to a really embarrasing skin problem.

I wouldn't have believed this if it weren't for a local guy here in Nutjob Hills that has a case of acne so bad that people actually can't stand to look at him for more than a few seconds at a time. Because of his problem he actually wears a mask when going out. He also works nights at a job where he is alone on the premises.

As for treatment, that much is pretty much the same for adult acne as it is for teenage acne, you can click here for a rundown of some of those treatments.

What causes adult acne?

Many believe that mental stress is one of the main causes of adult acne. Women have a higher chance of getting adult acne than men because on average, women have a more stressful day to day routine. Also because their menustrual cycle and pregnancy leave them prone to having hormonal imbalances. Hormones are one of the more influential factors in both the onset and the aggravation of adult acne, just like they are with teen acne.

Both your environment and your lifestyle can play a large part in contributing to adult acne. Failure to eat a balanced diet and habits like drinking and smoking affect the health of your skin (by the way, the skin is the largest organ in the human body).

By far the best solution is to prevent it from happening in the first place. A good starting point is to insure that you eat a balanced diet, get plenty of rest (that does a lot to fight stress) and drink lots of water (the classic eight glasses a day thing).

What you use on your skin can either help it or harm it, depending on what’s in the product.

Therefore, it’s important to consider the ingredients in ALL the products you use – like those on your hair as well as your skin. Research is showing a buildup of chemicals on the skin can cause acne, dryness (which leads to prematurely aging skin) and skin cancer.

The best treatments for any age or type skin are gentle ones that are effective. Chemicals are not gentle or effective. In fact, research is showing that a buildup of chemicals on the skin can cause acne, dryness (which leads to prematurely aging skin) and skin cancer.

The best products are those with the highest quality ingredients, not the highest price.

With so many manufacturers using chemicals in their products, almost any product – cleansers, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving creams, conditioners, hair gels, sunscreens and makeup – can be causing breakouts on your face and body.

To find chemical-free products, read labels and research ingredients – or start with certified organic ingredients which don’t contain harmful chemicals.
